Christmas is just around the corner, which calls for many people to start getting into the holiday spirit by decorating their houses, buying gifts for their loved ones, and engaging in all the Christmas-related entertainment.
However, these ways of celebration weren’t always present when celebrating Christmas, especially with the holiday having pagan roots to it. There was a time where the birth of Jesus, known to be on Christmas Day, wasn’t even on December 25, or even Christmas in the United States was outlawed at some point because of differences in religious beliefs that early American colonists have in contrast to what religious beliefs were implemented in Christmas at that time period as well.
Each variation of Christmas is drastically different from the last, each individual one making up part of what the holiday is today and how it’s celebrated. Here is a timeline of the history of Christmas to show how much the holiday has changed over the centuries and why it’s celebrated in this specific manner in the current day.
