Backpacks are incredibly efficient in holding our things as we make our way from class to class. However, with being spacious, some people use it to fit their more… odd items in their bag. I asked people around campus what was in their bag, and now I’m gonna share to you the top 5 most interesting things I found and illustrated in other peoples backpacks!
5. Salt and Pepper Packets
To be fair, the cafeteria food at this high school isn’t exactly gourmet. The fact that this is in someone’s backpack says a lot about the cafeteria, and my only question is: where did you even take these packets from? Still, this is probably more efficient than odd, which is why it’s number 5 on my list.
4. A Full Container of Tums (Crushed)
Many people have snacks or some sort of food item in their backpack. Salt and pepper packets isn’t even that much of a surprise! I guess in that case there is probably a chance you can get a stomach ache or feel queasy, so you need tums to make you feel better. It’s smart to have some on hand, but having a FULL container of tums sitting in your backpack is extreme, especially since their crushed from all the movement of your backpack going from class to class. Useful? Absolutely! A little extreme? Maybe, but who am I to judge after number 3? Which brings us to:
3. 1 liter bottle of Pepsi Cola (3 other various bottles of Cola)
Out of context, this is completely absurd. No one needs a liter of soda in their backpack. On top of that, there are 3 other liters of soda with varying different cola brands. I couldn’t even find the time to drink any of these (especially since I lean more on the Dr. Pepper side, sorry!) However, this is for someone’s statistics project where they have different people taste test different brands of cola to see if they can guess all of them correctly. Totally explains it, which is why it’s not currently number one on my list, but it is very impressive that 4 party sized bottles can fit in their backpack!
2. Sonny Angel Doll
I haven’t even heard of Sonny Angel until I was shown a doll, and now I see them almost everywhere. This is a popular figurine that comes as collectibles, with little blind boxes that you open to see which one you have! It’s pretty cute, I’ll admit it. I wish I had one to give me moral support through finals. I wouldn’t call it odd, but I think it’s more particularly interesting based on its background and that Sonny Angels are popular apparently!
To be honest, all of these are weird or interesting, but none of them compare to number 1. They all have their own personality to it, but my final choice has both personality and that it SCARES me that I don’t know what’s inside it.
1. Burn Book (based on Mean Girls)
If you were wondering the same thing I was: yes, it is in fact an actual burn book. If you aren’t familiar with Mean Girls or you’d like a general definition, a burn book is essentially a book where you write out all your frustrations. Whether that be about other people or classes, the main point is to burn it once your done so that no one can read it. The Mean Girls version of a burn book leans heavily to the more malicious side, which is partly why this book concerns me. However, the person I know who owns this is incredibly sweet and kind, so I can assure everyone else that it’s not like the Mean Girls version. I do want to say that the decoration of this book is really well made, and it looks even better in person! For these reasons, I put the burn book at number 1.
Backpacks were meant to aid us in holding our books and taking us to our classes, but they are also a reflection of each of us. There’s nothing wrong which having more outlandish things in your backpack because that’s simply what gives it character. All I know is that when I graduate this high school and I clean out my backpack, I’m going to be thinking about all the memories I made here with each book or trinket I take out of it, and I hope it’s the same for all of you!
