AHS Choir Fall Festival Review
On October 10th, our two Atascadero High School choirs performed various numbers for their annual Choir Fall Festival at the AMS gym. They were accompanied by other choirs from throughout the Atascadero School District, so they proved to be role models for the upcoming generation of singers.
When the Elementary and Middle School choirs were done performing, up went the Atascadero High School mixed choir. The mixed choir features all levels of singers from all grades. Their first song was “Bonse Aba” with the percussion of AHS student and drummer, Timmy Peterson. “Bonse Aba” is arranged by Victor Johnson, and the lyrics translate to “All people who accept his authority are his children. Are children in the power of God.” Next, they sang “Nine Hundred Miles” arranged by Roger Emerson and accompanied by Micheal Soliman.
Later in the performance, the AHS Chamber came up on stage to perform. The first song they sang was “Time” by Jennifer Lucy Cook. Second, they sang “Away” by Tavares-Mocha. featured soloists include Wawona Lawler (Grade 11) and Hannah Hiatt (Grade 12). They closed with “Haven’t We Met” by Batchelor & Rankin. On this song, soloists included soloist Sara Schimke (Grade 10) and Milo Graceffa (Grade 10). The last two songs also feature accompanist Micheal Soliman and AHS student drummer, Jayden Morin.
The event ended with all AUSD choirs coming up to sing “Fruit Cannon” arranged by Carlos Manuel Puga Otero. “Fruit Canon” is a silly and spirited song that got the audience on their feet and dancing. It was a wonderful bonding experience for all grade levels, and connected everyone with the inner kid spirit.
Many positive reviews came out of this night’s event. Roaring applause and energy filled the room. AHS student Alia Luna, who came to watch the show, says “I thought it was so cool because your voices were so powerful that they blended together, and it was really fun to listen to!”
Come watch the AHS Choirs sing at their next performances! Upcoming on November 8th is their annual Cuesta Vocal Jazz Festival at Cuesta College. This is a closed event where high schools from around our central state come together to perform jazz songs, and conclude with an intensive workshop from our judges/professional vocalists from around the country. This will be during the school day, performing at 9:55 am.
Following this is their annual winter concert at the AMS gym on Friday, Dec. 6th. This event is open to the public, and they recommend everyone comes to watch this experience! This event is free and starts at 6:30pm.
The following weekend on Friday, Dec 13th is the Atascadero Winter Wonderland. Both of our AHS choirs will be performing there on the steps of city hall from 6:35-6:55pm. They hope you’ll take the opportunity to show up and support them with full energy and enthusiasm. Hope to see you there!
