Elijah Grimes and his company, “e06g”
Elijah Grimes is an aspiring artist and clothing designer from Atascadero, California. He does a mix of hand drawn art and digital art or graphic design, with the ability to put what he thinks on paper. His art comes as a very unique kind and almost uncategorized with wild, trippy, and almost tacky designs. How did Elijah come up with his company, or more specifically the name? According to him the name was created because, “Honestly I don’t really know, the E stands [Elijah], the G stands for Grimes (His last name), and then the 0 and the 6 was when I was born (2006)”. Elijah finds inspiration in other creators such as 242G and 914 New York, but he also comes up with his designs just off the top of his head. Elijah had always wanted to make clothes, especially over the pandemic, but he never had the accommodations to make them. Now that he has a job and access to clothing sites he has started his company and has dozens of clothes and other items in his store.
Anina Jenkins
How do you cure your boredom or express yourself? Was it something that you had done as a kid and stuck with you, or a hard earned talent with lots of work put forth? For Anina Jenkins, drawing along with acrylic painting, is just that. One of the questions I asked her was what is your ideal time and workspace? Anina’s response being, “Honestly like my bed, and at night time is when I feel the most creative, like when it’s really late and I should be asleep.” Another question I had asked Anina is what’s your inspiration for your drawings? She stated this, “I’ll use Pinterest for my ideas and then obviously other artists like Elijah Grimes.” Coming back full circle for the stories. It’s nice to see that the artists here also seem to connect with each other and bounce off ideas, whether that be them just being friends or almost a sort of community. Lastly, one of the most important questions or hardest ones to think about that artists get asked; what is your goal for your art in the next 2 years? Anina says to “Just to be consistent, and after I graduate I still want to draw. I have my art classes, but I really want to continue and get better.”
You can find Anina’s paintings down below.
Riley England
Riley England is another local artist from Atascadero. He combines multiple styles with his art including realism, cartoon, and even off paper art. I asked Riley what other types of art he likes to make besides realism, and he told me that “I’ve got this big old sheet of plywood and I’m just doing tons with little different drawings on it”. Not only is Riley a great artist on paper, but is also into wood burning. I then asked about any other examples of other drawings he’s done. He replied, “I did a knight helmet, and then I did a Deadpool/Wolverine and Ghost Rider.” Following this conversation, I asked him about how he comes up with his drawings. Riley’s response was, “Mostly references of what I feel like drawing, but sometimes I do free hand drawings just off of my mind”. Seeing Riley’s style with all of his art and just in general, I was curious to know if he had a favorite artist. he stated that since a kid, Riley has been watching Bob Ross, even before going to bed. I then asked him about his favorite piece that he’s made. “Recently, I might have to go with the deadpool and wolverine (wood burning piece) because it took a really long time”. A display of that piece can be seen below, definitely something you should check out if you are interested to see just how talented Riley is. Per usual, the last question I asked Riley is, what is his goal- and or- where does he see his art in the next two years? Rileys holding statement was, “To get really really good at it, or to enter competitions”. As one last follow up question I asked him if he had ever thought about doing commissions. According to Riley, you guys better be looking out for him on etsy.
