Lisa Fiore
our Lead Counselor
Mrs. Fiore grew up going to school here at Atascadero High School. Two of her favorite memories from her high school years are her time playing varsity softball and participating in senior paint day, back when seniors used to paint murals on the A building. She still has the paintfilled brush she used for the mural. After high school, she started at Valley Community College with an interest in science, and even worked for Lockheed aeronautical systems while she was there. However, once she gained enough credits, Mrs. Fiore decided to transfer to Cal Poly and attempted to get into teaching before being accepted into biology. At Cal Poly she gained a passion for marine biology that she still persues in the form of volunteering at the Marine Mammal Center, and she later went back to get her teaching credentials.
After college she began working at an elementary school, then at a middle school, teaching robotics and coding science. She has worked in education for a total of 28 years, but starting about 6 years ago, she decided that she wanted to be more involved with students and how they see their future, so she decided to become a councelor. As a foster parent, Mrs. Fiore believes that encouragment without judgement is the best way to help students. No matter where a student has come from, she wants to help them find the classes and programs they need to get into in order to qualify for their dream college. Mrs. Fiore was the first person in her family to get a college education, so she had to find her own way to pay for her years at Cal Poly. She also had to find effective studying and working stratigies for her dislexyia so that she could persue the subjects she loved. That being said, she knows both how rough it is to find your own way, and hopes pass the same strategies, determination, and joy that will help her students persue their passions.
When Mrs. Fiore is not counceling or volunteering at the Marine Mammal Center, she loves playing computer solitaire, messing around with Legos, and reads a lot of news articles. She loves to continuously learn, and says that if it wasn’t so expensive, she would continue going to college just for the sake of it. She loves papusas and her favorite movie is City of Angels.
