On September 24, 2024, I will go to Colony Cinemas here in Atascadero and watch the new movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. With the movie being directed by Tim Burton, you know that it is going to be a good one. Burton has directed many critically acclaimed gothic horror and fantasy movies, such as Edward Scissor Hands and the animated movie Corpse Bride. While it may be a sequel, it still contains some of the original actors from the first movie, such as Michael Keaton (playing Beetlejuice) and Winona Ryder (playing Lydia Deetz).
Beetlejuice was definitely an exciting watch. I enjoyed this movie thoroughly, although it was a little bit difficult for me personally to follow along the story line. There was a ton of action throughout the story and the plot takes a while to begin but eventually you start to see it. There were lots of subplots that you had to follow along with while you were also following the main plot. An example of a subplot in the movie is the ghost boy who tricks Astrid.
The visuals and the stop-motion animation were very well done.
Watching Michael Keaton being the familiar Beetlejuice character again is great. The most interesting part of the world is Beetlejuice himself, but I feel like they could have gotten deeper into his character and had more funny scenes with him. They did not have as much Beetlejuice screen time as I think most people would have liked to see, only about seventeen minutes or so. They had so many different storylines going simultaneously, making it hard to follow and try to keep up with each character; everyone was doing their own thing.
The whole view on the afterlife in this movie was shown well. Most of the movie is based on the people who recently passed and are stuck in between living and the afterlife. I loved the scenes in the train station, they showed so much character. The sets were really cool and the atmosphere of the musical scene and the soul train in the train station was great. Overall I think this movie was worth it to watch. If you liked the first Beetlejuice, I think this is a good sequel to check out!
