Our school is welcoming a lot of new faces on our campus this year. One of those new faces is Mr. Holley, one of our new assistant principals. He’s worked in education for about 10 years. First teaching in the LA area for 6 years, he then became an administrator for 2.
Mr. Holley says, “My core values as it relates to education is that I believe that all students can can succeed, and that really drives my passion for the work that I do.” He’s had some great teachers that had a strong influence in his life and who saw potential in him. They made sure to work with him to achieve his goals, which made a lasting impact on him and the way he is.
When he was younger, he was a kid that just loved PE. He recalls that one day, in fifth grade, his relay team had just won the relay. “I was just having a time of my life in PE” He said, “And I looked at my PE teacher, and I was like, ‘you get paid for this?’ He said, ‘Yeah,’ And I was like, oh, that’s the job.”
From there, he took school more seriously as a student. In middle school, he struggled a lot. There were so many changes going on in his life, such as family dynamic changes and moving across the state, which caused him to not be as focused in school. However, when he first started taking college classes to become a teacher, that’s what really just ignited things for him, and showed him that this was real for him. This, he knew, is what he wanted to pursue.
Connecting with the students on this campus is incredibly important to him, and he’s excited to start building these relationships with the students on campus. If you see him around, don’t be afraid to say hi!
