This year at Atascadero High School, we’ve gotten a whole new crew of staff. Many students have checked their emails and schedules to find that they, in fact, have been assigned to a new counselor. You may be asking yourself, “Who are these people? What are they doing here? Why did they replace my old counselor?” And most importantly, “What can they do for us?” Each of these new staff members have their own strengths and set of unique skills, so that they can further improve the lives of those at Atascadero High School. So without further ado, let’s see what they can do for us!
Robert Demick, the counselor for those at the end of the alphabet, is one of our newly added staff members to the school board. Hailing from Yakima, Washington, Robert Demick has a passion for working with students. “I want to help students see and reach their potential. And, even learn how to go beyond their perceived potential and succeed at the high level.”
Robert has also worked in the business sector as a recruiter, and has gained a fundamental understanding as to how and why students should work as hard as they can during their four years here at AHS. He is also a firm believer in the individual value of each of each student. “I really believe everyone is worthy of respect and attention.” He said, “I don’t believe that some people are better than others.” As for what he’s doing for Atascadero High School, he’s currently hard at work managing schedules to the best of his ability. “I know how important this is for each student to be successful for this upcoming school year.”
Onto more of his personal life, Robert enjoys training, playing the drums, and is learning to surf. He has completed a total of four Ironman Triathlons and plays in bands from time to time. He’s stated that “I love music of all types, and [I’ve] played with some major names in the industry during the grunge scene in Seattle way back in the day.” In fact, while he was attending high school, he played in the band and jazz ensemble for his school. He also has three psychology degrees from the University of Idaho, so he’s quite the smart cookie.
Robert has been doing a great job managing and improving the schedules of the students at Atascadero, so let’s hope he keeps up the great work!
