The Atascadero Instrumental Music Program has had tremendous success at the beginning of this 2024-25 school year. With great support from parents, administration, Mr. Conrad and most importantly, the dedicated students. We have made numerous strides towards a stronger Instrumental Music Program. With an exciting start to the marching season, great achievements by our very own students, and so much more. We are all very excited to see what comes out of this new year for our music program and would love it if you would all join us on our path to greatness.
Our very own students, Tyler Wyatt and Hosea Price, not only auditioned for the Cuesta Jazz band but secured themselves a seat! Both musicians spoke about how they look forward to the trials that come with being surrounded by others who’s talent only makes them want to improve. Both young men are excited for their Monday night rehearsals and a great new challenge. And all in the AHS band are so happy to see such greatness out of our great friends, wishing them nothing but the best.
With growth comes growing pains, just like the ones that are currently being faced but the AHS orchestra at the moment. As of last year (2023-24) the orchestra had just eleven students, half of which graduated in June, leaving all the students who planned on returning worried about what was going in store for them. But with great recruitment efforts by returning students and Mr. Conrad they were able to just about double those numbers. Although all were excited about the growth it came with a major downside; with the previous number of members being so low there were very few instruments for students to use. Meaning as of right now the new string students are taking this time to learn as much as they can without instruments. Taking time to learn theory and music fundamentals. Both new and returning students are ecstatic to see what the future holds for their beloved program, with only good nerves of what could come next.
If you find the dedication of our band’s returning students but the growing passion of new musicians and wish to help nurture such a thing; you could help raise money for things like new instruments, repairs and fun trips to exciting places. Until September 18th you can ask any of our friendly instrumental students about the current fundraiser going on to do just those things.
